Prelude

Hello Texans fans! I am a Falcons fan and member of the Falcoholic visiting your blog to share and predict my selections for the 2018 NFL draft. I realize the draft is almost a full year away, but I enjoy drafting, predicting, and the NFL in general so much that I figured I would share my predictions with you guys for the upcoming season. Keep in mind that I have predicted both the record and pick (assuming you have a pick otherwise the team that owns the pick) based on my opinions and by no means do I believe that this will be entirely accurate a year from now. Rather, please view it as an opportunity to discuss with your fellow bloggers the current state of your team, what prospects you like so far, what your projected needs are, etc. heading into this season and looking ahead to next. I realize that my knowledge of your team is obviously less than yours but do realize that I am not trying to be mean or hurtful in any way if you don't like the record or selection I have mocked to you. If you are interested in asking me any questions you can do so on my main article over at the Falcoholic. I don't care what you say about me or my projections here as I will only check in every now and then to see the general gist of your reactions and will not respond to any comments posted below (although I may leave a rec in passing). If you do comment on the Falcoholic I please ask that you be respectful and constructive in your arguments as you will be representing your fanbase to all the other teams in the NFL as well (I'll be posting these articles to every team). To get a sense of how accurate these are or just for fun, I encourage you to check out last year's predictions I made here and click on your team's pick to see how your fanbase responded then. Best of luck this upcoming season and thanks!

23) Cleveland Browns (via Houston Texans) (9-7) select OLB Dante Booker

The Texans made it clear they view themselves as contenders with one piece missing from their arsenal this past offseason: QB. The team made the bold move to dump the bust FA signing Brock Osweiler (who I thought would be at least league average last year) and recoup a decent chunk of money in exchange for giving up a second round pick. It was likely the team thought they would get Romo this past offseason, but the former Cowboy decided to call it a career instead. Entering the draft, it seemed likely that a QB would fall to them although after the Trubisky and Mohomes trades it became apparent that a QB would likely not fall into their laps as they had hoped and moved up to take Watson. Watson is a decent QB but he will certainly have his rookie woes. Still, he’s better than anything Houston trotted out at QB last year and I believe Watson will win the starting job before the season starts. Outside of Watson the team has an incredible defense and it’s scary to imagine what Clowney and Watt could do together. Offensively, there’s enough supporting talent to warrant a playoff spot, although not enough to get a win in my book as I have the team losing to the Ravens here. Due to the Watson trade this pick goes back to Cleveland who use it to fix their LB corps in the form of Dante Booker. Booker is arguably a top ten talent as he has size, athleticism, and physicality to go along with outstanding potential and production. Unfortunately the injury bug is strong with Booker who has received very limited playing time throughout his career at Ohio State/ If Booker can stay healthy he may be the next TJ Watt and claw himself back into the first round, and given Cleveland’s desperate need for star talent, he is the selection here.
