Tenacious D

First let me say that the forth down stop on the opening drive was huge.  The Texans took it personally - and they showed they were nobody's doormat, playoff bound or not.  

It might have taken fourteen games, but we finally blitzed.  We didn't bring the kitchensink every down - but we did blitz - more than we have all season and it paid divedends.  It was as if the notion of bringing blitzes inspired the defense to be aggressive on every play.  The Bucs were gang-tackled everytime they touched the ball.  The secondary was excellent in run support and they got after the ball carrier with a tenacity of a team bound and determined to win.  Fred Bennett played like a rookie, that is to say he showed steady promise and youthful exuberance.  He's gonna be a good one.  The linbacking corp excelled at bringing pressure when called upon.  They were led by the outstanding play of Morlon Greenwood.  The D line brought their lunch pails.  In a word - they were stout.  They gave up a paltry 71 yards on the ground.  And get this - Mario played so well on Sunday - he made Justice eat a huge slice of humble pie:

Well, Richard, are you going to apologize for all those terrible things you said about Kubiak not drafting Reggie Bush or your boy Vince Young?  Indeed. Mario Williams appears to be the best player to come out of the 2006 draft. Yes, the Texans appear to have gotten it right.

If one play embodied the performance of the D it was the lick Will Demps put on Ike Hilliard.  Like the Bucs, he's still trying to figure out what hit 'em!
