General BRB Idiocy
If Not David Carr, Then Who, Back In 2002?
I asked this last night on Twitter as part of our #TTTQ, but I wanted to post the query here for those of you who don't utilize that forum (which you totally should, if for no other reason than to interact with all your favorite least hated BRB personalities):
#TTTQ: Back in '02, were you in favor of #Texans taking David Carr with the first overall pick? Why or why not?
Why Should I Consider The Other Side Of An Argument When I Know It's Wrong?
For the past twelve years (minus the two years where I went back to school), I've spent nearly every Wednesday night playing soccer after work. While the group of players has varied over the years, there's been a core group of about four or five of us who have been there from the beginning.
The modus operandi for the day generally goes as follows: Go to soccer field from work, play soccer, go to bar from soccer field, drink beer, go home, shower, sleep.
I'm not going to lie to you. The part about going to the bar is the main reason this thing has held together for so long. Some have referred to us as a drinking club with a soccer problem. We've become a very tight knit group of friends and as we've grown older, gotten married, and had kids (or in the case of one guy, had grandkids), it's been the one constant night where we can get out and just be guys.
Of course, if you take pretty much any group of men, stick them in a competitive environment for an hour and a half and then give them beer, the discussion will inevitably steer towards stupid arguments, outlandish statements, and the occasional dumb bet.
Throughout the course of any given Wednesday night, you are unlikely to hear comments start with the phrases "I think," "it's my opinion," or "your point is well made, but," and far more likely to hear them start with "I know," "the fact is," and "you're full of crap, here's the truth," spiced with the occasional expletive.
Yet, despite the apparent confidence, the comment that follows is often just well crafted BS (or perhaps not so well crafted). The "truth" is almost never as clear or precise as we would like it to be. The fact is, we all think we know more than we actually do, and we would be well served to carefully acknowledge opposing views and alternate theories.
That's unlikely to happen on Wednesdays, but the same applies to the discussion of the Texans' potential off-season moves -- I have more hope for you guys than I do for my soccer crew (perhaps because there's less beer here). So in an effort to facilitate some of the discussion, I'm noting some potential alternate theories on some commonly accepted "truths". Some I agree with and some I don't, but I want to pose them all the same.

Saturday Night's Alright For Commenting: BRB Open Thread (02/18/12)
The maiden voyage of this idea didn't cause the universe to collapse in upon itself, so let's try this again.
Consider this your open thread to discuss whatever you're up to or thinking about on this fine Saturday night, Texans-related or not. Maybe you want to chat about Mario Williams. Maybe you want to talk about where you're heading for dinner. Maybe you want to elaborate upon the pros (because there are no cons) to drinking Coors Light and/or Irish whiskey.
You are the master of your domain. Except that the community guidelines are always in effect, so use your good judgment in what you post for public consumption.
Friday Factious Fun: Who Is The Second-Best Wide Receiver In Texans' History?
You may have gotten word that your Houston Texans are set to begin a campaign celebrating their tenth anniversary as an on-field NFL franchise. I say/make up "on-field" because the Texans were technically born on October 6, 1999 when Houston was awarded the NFL's 32nd franchise, and we all know how important semantics are around these parts.
As we trudge through the interminable offseason, that ten year anniversary ballyhoo provides us with an excellent excuse to take a look back at the various players who have passed through the home locker room at Reliant Stadium since 2002. And, let's face it: Things are slow in the NFL world at the moment, so we've got to talk Texans wherever we can find it. Thus, we give you the first edition of this exercise after the jump.

Is Franchising Arian Foster The Smart Move For The Texans?
I haven't given much thought to the notion of your Houston Texans applying the franchise tag to Arian Foster, probably because I've long believed the team will come to terms on a long-term deal with Foster. Arian is a restricted free agent, which means another team could sign him to an offer sheet if the Texans and Foster haven't agreed to a new contract by the time free agency opens. In such a scenario, the Texans would have the right to match the offer. If they matched, Arian would stay in Houston. If they didn't match, the team that signed Foster would send a first-round pick to the Texans as compensation for procuring the services of the best running back in the NFL.
A first-round pick is nice and all, but it's no guarantee that the player selected with that pick will ever approach the value of Arian Foster to the Texans in 2012. Even the biggest Ben Tate fan among us would not suggest that Tate has shown he's as productive and multi-dimensional as Arian Foster is. Foster is a huge reason--not the only reason by any stretch of the imagination, but a very big reason--that the Texans' offense works as well as it does. They cannot let him walk, even if it meant an extra first-round pick.
MOCKSTRAVAGANZA: A Look At 18 Mock Drafts From Around The Internet
As I start to write this, it is 71 days and 5 hours until the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft begins. With your Houston Texans not picking until 26th --- thanks to a little thing I like to call MAKING THE PLAYOFFS FOR THE FIRST TIME --- they probably won't be on the clock until some time after 10pm CST. (Related: Starting the draft on a Thursday night remains a stupid idea that I hate very much.)
While we (read: Tim) have linked to various mock drafts, I figured midway through February, a mere eight days prior to the start of the NFL Combine, was as good a time as any to compile all of the mocks into one post. Then, we can do the same thing again post-Combine and maybe once or twice more as late April nears. It's like a time-capsule for people with ADD!
Also, If you know of any decent mocks that I have missed, please add them in the comments with a link and the name of the player currently predicted to go to Houston. Now, onward! Let us review mock drafts in a non-mocking (for the most part) way!

Report: Peyton Manning "Definitely Interested In Possibly Coming To The Texans"
When Rivers first texted me about this last night, I debated whether I should even draft a post in response to Bob Allen's report. Then I read the flurry of commentary the news item inspired in this post, so I decided we should at least have a forum for the discussion, even though I happen to believe the story is a complete non-story. Let's examine what was reported and react accordingly after the jump.

Saturday Night's Alright For Commenting: BRB Open Thread (02/11/12)
We're kicking around the idea of having a regular Saturday evening open thread here at BRB, either in addition to or when "Saturday Night Tunes" is on hiatus. While it's almost sure to end poorly, what can I say? I'm a pie-eyed optimist. Let's touch that hot stove, shall we?
Consider this your open thread to discuss whatever you're up to or thinking about on this fine Saturday night, Texans-related or not. The community guidelines are always in effect, so use your good judgment in what you post for public consumption.
