Bengals QB Palmer to see elbow specialist

Sports Network | October 12, 2008

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Bengals starting quarterback Carson Palmer, sidelined with an elbow injury, is slated to see a specialist on Monday.

After going 23-of-39 for 217 yards in a loss to Dallas last week, Palmer did not play in Cincinnati's 26-14 loss Sunday to the New York Jets. Ryan Fitzpatrick took his place under center and went 20-of-33 for 152 yards and a rushing touchdown.

The 28-year-old stated after the game that he would stay in New York to see Mets team physician and elbow specialist Dr. David Altcheck, and also said he still expects to play in next Sunday's contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Palmer also sat out a 20-12 loss to the Cleveland Browns two weeks ago with soreness in his elbow. Fitzpatrick filled in under center and connected on 21-of-35 throws for 156 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.

For the season, the USC product has completed 75-of-129 passes for 731 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions in four games.
