Schaub? Rosenfels? Make Your Case!

If and when Sage Rosenfels has a good game and leads the Texans to victory tomorrow night against Denver, the whispers that have begun about this topic will surely get louder.  I briefly mentioned said topic in the last Post-Game Breakdown:

21.  Sage played a very, very good game.  Three (3) TD passes and zero (0) INTs are proof of that.  But don't tell me that he's a better QB than Matt Schaub.  A less fragile QB?  I can't argue with that right now.  But better?  No.  I'll have a longer post on this up later this week.

I'm calling a bit of an audible.  Instead of me championing at length why Matt Schaub is the superior option at QB for your Houston Texans, I'm opening up the floor.  Assuming both Rosenfels and Schaub were healthy, who do you think should be under center?  And more importantly, why?  If you want to take a look at each candidate's career and/or season stats, here they are:

Matt Schaub
Sage Rosenfels

This exercise will only be fun if participation gets heavy in the Comments below.  So let me know what you think.  Am I right in backing Schaub?  Or do I need to see the Rosenlight?

The Schaubster
Now, I was at the forefront of the Sage Rosenfels bandwagon all of last year. Given the choice between Sage and Carr, there was no doubt in my mind that Sage gives us a way better chance to win. I even wanted him to have a chance to compete for the starting job this year.

That said, there's a reason he's a back-up right now. And I know he didn't get a fair chance to succeed in Miami (and it's not like any other QB has managed to not completely suck for the dolphins since Sage). Still, he's a 5th-year guy and he still makes just as many rookie mistakes as Schaub. People were raving about his fourth-quarter comeback against Tennessee, yet forgot to mention the four turnovers. And last week he played great, yet he still handed Tampa Bay an easy seven with one fumble, and killed a touchdown drive with another.

Right now Schaub and Rosenfels are probably interchangeable in terms of talent when they're both 100%, but Sage is sort of a veteran, while Schaub has nowhere to go but up. And while I love Rosenfels' Favre-like propensity (did I use that word right?) to air the ball out, I have to admit I'm absolutely frightened every time he throws it.

All that aside, I think they should probably shut down Schaub for the season. The O-line is too banged up to protect him and he got a good foundation to build on this off-season.

That's a great point...
that the fact that they are fungible right now speaks more to Sage's lack of upside.  Which is yet another reason for sending him to a team that is willing to overpay.

Re: Schaubster
Great argument, Nash.  I wholeheartedly agree with everything you wrote, right down to the fact that I too was in the "Let Sage Start" camp before the Schaub trade.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Thursday touch of cynicism
So, the choice is between 2 really cool guys....one throws a redzone INT every game, and the other runs and slides in the middle of the field near the end of a game with the clock running and no timeouts.
We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

Slide
He studied from Leon Lett and Sage assumed that he would slide the rest of the way untouched.
