No Respect, I Tell Ya

The rosters for the 2008 Pro Bowl were just announced, and a quick scan reveals that your Houston Texans have but one player on the roster--DeMeco Ryans.  A hearty congrats to DeMeco; he deserved a trip last year when he got snubbed, and he certainly deserves the starting nod he received this year (torn knee ligament and all).

Given the stupendous seasons being had by several other Texans, why is DeMeco the only one packing for Hawaii?  Sure, Mario Williams, Kris Brown, and Will Demps (not bad for a dude who was signed off the street after the season started) were named "alternates" for the AFC squad.  That's better than nothing, I guess.  And but for his knee injury, there's little doubt that Andre Johnson would be going too.  But let's take a look at who beat out Super Mario, Brown, and Demps.

AFC DE
Jared Allen
Kyle Vanden Bosch
Jason Taylor

Of those three, Vanden Bosh is the one whose selection over Super Mario floors me the most.  Remember--this isn't MLB; there's no rule that every roster has to be represented.  You just can't tell me that Vanden Bosch is more deserving than Mario Williams.  And if the voting had stayed open for a day or so after Thursday's virtuoso performance, I have to believe Super Mario is in the top three.

AFC K
Rob Bironas

Kris Brown has had a great season, but I can't really take exception to Bironas getting the nod here.

AFC FS
Ed Reed

With all due respect to Will Demps, I won't even begin to argue this.

In summation, Super Mario got an unabashed screw job; K. Brown deservedly lost a close call; and Will Demps should be ecstatic that Ed Reed might know who he is.

This league better recognize
At least DeMeco is going.  In retaliation for the lack of national respect, I'm watching these next couple Sunday's for the following:

-AJ has two big games.  One of which will be HUGE. Like 170+ yds 2 TD's huge.
-Mario Williams will solidify himself as a semiannual nightmare for Peyton Manning.

Two tough games to go.  I'm looking forward to 2 nasty battles, 8 quarters of play-your-guts-out-to-get-a-winning-season kind of football.  Can you imagine what sort of respect our division would get if the 4th place team has a 9-7 record?

Some teams play games on Sunday...ours goes to War. Go Texans!!!

re: AFC South
The last place team will at worst finish 7-9.  And I am still sticking with my pre-season pick of 8-8.  What a badass group of teams.  If 17 new country club members doesn't knock a team into the basement, then what will?

The next few years are very likely to be determined by the Patriots or the AFC South.

We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

To a certain point...
What do we expect?  Really?

When the major print news organ of the team repeatedly demeans and abases someone. that person is going to get a bad wrap.  The people who have been talking about what a bust they obviously had not been watching the freakin' games.

This is what we get for having absolute tools at the chron, and it's yet another reason that paper needs to go the way of the buggy-whip and chastity belt.

amen brother BFD
But when we start winning consistently, McClain will act like he's always been their best supporter.  Why they let him interview them or in the locker room is beyond me.

fyi
They say know your enemy, well I just pulled up the chron.com, and 4 of the 5 top stories were about the Cowboys...fuck them,... fuck them every one... We're getting ready to play the Colts, and they have nothing to say about the Texans, except who didn't make the probowl...god they suck.  I have no more words to convey what a shit local paper they are regarding local team coverage.  I've lived in towns that the press say are bad sports towns due to fan apathy and uninvolvement, but this is the opposite, the press here ruins much for the local fan base, and roots for what may make them look smarter than they are. Why doesn't Houston get it, and get rid of the shit.  Fuckin Cowboy news rag...
Oh, and Merry Christmas you real Texan Fans!! I mean that. Happy holidays!

It's true though
I love me some Mario Williams. I mean love me some Mario and am as disappointed as I am disgusted he didn't get the starting nod at DE.  But, truth be told, his recent p u b hadn't come until last week - too late for the recognition he deserved.

If we are all this pissed, can you imagine angry Mario is? Too bad for whoever draws that blocking assignment.  The only thing scarier than Mario abandoning the 3 point stance to come at you full speed - is a pissed-off Mario coming at you full speed.

Will Demps knows who you are
At his website, the aptly named willdemps.com, under news he chose a copy-paste from this blog to make the announcement of his selection as an alternate.

Great find, Jimbo.  I guess I should be honored:

Slick Willie
He just may need to get his website peeps to add a link to where they copy & pasted....just sayin.

I thought that, too.  Always respectful to get the trackback.  Still nice to get the copy and paste, too.

is that they didn't copy and paste the end part of the post.

Matt, a priest, & a rabbi walk into a bar......one of them gets their nuts torn by a psychotic OUsucks fan (oxymoron?).

not oxymoron
An oxymoron in that case would be "a well-adjusted, personable OU fan."  However, it is redundant to say "psychotic ousucks fan."

Heh.

is why I didn't major in anything literary.....numbers always worked out better for me.

Color me redundant.

Knowing damn well that Will's people have been scouring the net for stories to paste, I mean post about him... what do you think the chances are that Matt's musings make it to willdemps.com?

You know you've been studying too much when
your very first thought is, "hey!  you could bring a copyright claim against Smooth Will!"  Have I mentioned that I hate law school?

4:31 tomorrow (end of finals), I'm working out the old right bicep.  Well, that and my liver.  And only for as long as it takes me to sink into sweet alcoholic oblivion.

with ya
I got my grades back at about 5:15, and there has been a bottle of beer attached to my lips since.  Aesop Rock's adding a little background music, and, as soon as the kids are asleep, it'll be bad movie night.

And, as of tonight, I have more As as a grad student than I did as an undergrad.  Hmmmm.....

Enlightened
You really can't go wrong with any of the Def Jux artists.  But yeah, Aesop has always been a favorite of mine.  Good to see he's appreciated by more than just high school kids and those of us who like pretend that we're still in high school.

I never took it in law school (because I avoided pretty much any difficult classes), only to find that it is one of the essay topics on the Missouri Bar.  Good times.
