Open Gameday Thread--Jacksonville v. Houston

I feel bad about slacking off so bad in Planet BRB this week.  Holidays or not, your Houston Texans have a chance to do something they've never done before--win eight (8) games in a season.  Finish without a losing record for the first time in franchise history.  Right the wrongs that were inflicted by the previous regime back in 2004 when the Texans laid an egg the size of Abilene against Cleveland when they had the same chance at .500 they do tomorrow.

You know what would make me feel considerably better about mailing it in this week?  A win.  8-8.  Hope.  And it's coming.  By the way, the usual Injury Report sort of seemed pointless, considering the probability/possibility of the Jags sitting some (many?) of their starters in what is clearly a meaningless game for them.  But back to the topic at hand:  Houston 27, Jacksonville 14.

Leave your pre-game, in-game, and post-game belief systems on the game (and the 2007 season, for that matter) in the Comments below.  GO TEXANS!

First of the last
Boo-ya.  Yesterday was my bday - surprise party an all.  As I blew out the candle on my Texans cake (yes - they made me a cake with a Texans logo), I had but one wish - to kick the living crap out of JVille.

Happy Birthday, Solis
BRB's present to you?  One year's free subscription!

And that Texans cake sounds beyond cool.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Thanks for the well wishes
Sorry I had to dip out of the gameday thread.  Went to a friend's house to watch football while our girls went shopping for their new years eve party tonight.

The birthday was mad cool.  My girl set up a 'surprise party'.  It was a nice turn out.  We all got lit and played poker.  This is a replica helmet I got from my one of my homeboys. This is me pretending to try it on.

Now I just need to get it autographed...

Aesop Rock
So, after BFD referenced Aesop and SOLIS agreed that he was awesome, I got my hands on it.  Very choice.  You fellas have solid taste.

Aesop
It's underground hip hop.  Nothing jiggy - its just insightful and well thought-out.  It's lyrical mastery at its best.

Also, it is now firmly attached to Travis Johnson.

Have you ever
Played one of those pick-up basketball games against the team that clearly runs the YMCA whenever they want and they're just dicking around.  Your team is trying really hard, but you just suck so fucking bad that even with the other team screwing around, you're lobbing up bricks and they're making lay-ups at will?

Just saying.

Tell me again why I follow sports?

by DisplacedTexan on Dec 30, 2007 12:26 PM CST   0 recs

That's a great analogy.
I expect Matt Jones to pull the football equivalent of a 360 dunk at any second.

Dexter Wynn sighting.
Nice play, but the shit throw helped.

Shantee Orr
made the tackle on JJ.  I do miss him and his edge presence.

True
but good things just seem to happen when AD gets downfield in coverage.  Think of the over-the-shoulder punt catches near the goalline, etc.

Walker
So is this the end of the Darius Walker experiment?  Like has been said - we know what the Dayne Trayne can do.
Tell me again why I follow sports?

by DisplacedTexan on Dec 30, 2007 12:53 PM CST   0 recs

I think...
Kubes has to decide which one of those guys to keep as his third-down/short-yardage guy.  Neither should be a feature back.

by MDC on Dec 30, 2007 12:55 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Still
I think you can keep both.  Get a feature back (Michael Turner anyone?).  Then run a split back system w/ Back X and Dayne (thunder/lightning sort of shit).  Then keep Walker around for 3rd down, spells, etc.

We have other problems.  I think even two mediocre backs isn't the worst thing.

Tell me again why I follow sports?

by DisplacedTexan on Dec 30, 2007 12:59 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Es posible
how much longer is Dayne's contract?  I have no problem with a three-back setup like that.  I would be very hesitant to go into next year with only Dayne and Walker, though.

by MDC on Dec 30, 2007 1:01 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

What about
the possibility of Dayne, Walker and Taylor?  I don't think that is too bad of a setup, that is if Taylor will be healthy his next year.

by Triple347 on Dec 30, 2007 1:04 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Taylor
I love that guy and he's versatile as hell.  I wouldn't mind having him as our FB (along with Abbate?) and running more two back sets.  If he's healthy, he could obviate the need for another RB, at least in the short term.

by MDC on Dec 30, 2007 1:06 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

re: two back set
who was the last team to run the Pro-set formation?

by knave64 on Dec 30, 2007 11:48 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

A true Pro set?
I'm thinking 49ers.  But if Taylor is our fullback, that would actually work with our offense.

by MDC on Dec 31, 2007 2:28 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Dayne
is an unrestricted free agent.

but we get a break with the "offset at the spot of the foul" thing.

Dexter Wynn
is playing opposite of Fred Bennett right now.

by Triple347 on Dec 30, 2007 1:08 PM CST   0 recs

Because Von Hutchins
looks like he should be paying the Texans to let him stand on the sideline.

by MDC on Dec 30, 2007 1:10 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Where's Mario?
Other than the one play where he ran down the RB, he's been invisible.  I don't like that.

by MDC on Dec 30, 2007 1:10 PM CST   0 recs

Mario
just chased another RB down the field.
