2007 NFL Draft--Open Thread

As promised, here is the vehicle for all of our rants, profanity, disbelief, and (hopefully) praise.  Fire away throughout the weekend in the Comments below.

I'll start it off...Boy, I sure am glad Brady Quinn Medicine Woman won't be a Texan.

#2 Pick
I really wasn't expecting Millen to continue their receiver-drafting pattern and take Calvin Johnson.  This should make things interesting...

Please, please, please God....let the Browns take Quinn

We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

Wow!
Browns pass on Quinn to take Thomas!  Great move, but color me shocked.  I thought it was Quinn all the way.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Ditto
It might have been the smarter move for their franchise.

On a side note, check out Draft Tek's Real Time Predictions....it looks like they are really on top of things today, by producing a continuously updated predictive model.

Tim
I love the Brady Quinn Medicine Woman line.  Hilarious.

Question, are you guys watching the ESPN or NFL Network feeds?  I'm going back and forth, but only to ESPN when NFL Network goes to commercial.  Adam Schefter correctly called the top three picks about an hour and a half ago, and he seems to be plugged in well.  I've definitely preferred the NFL Network coverage so far, if you haven't checked it out.

I need a royalty check for talking up the NFL Network I think...

Not watching yet...
So far, I'm just keeping up on ESPN.com.....the wife is watching some shows, and honestly, I get frustrated listening to some of these retarded announcers.

However, I really don't have an option since Time Warner Cable still hasn't worked out their issues with carrying the NFL Network.

Re: NFL Network
The party I'm at only has ESPN, though I'd prefer the NFL Network.  Schefter is awesome.

And still, Dr. Quinn waits to find a home.

Probably a Trade
Washington is in a similar situation to us....needing more 1st day picks.

Watch for Miami or Minnesota to trade up to beat the other to getting the Medicine Woman.

Schefter says
Levi Brown will be the #5 pick to the Cards.

Re: Levi
The SB Nation Mock had him going there as well.  Not a flashy pick, but I like it for their team.  Nicely done.

Agree
Some people jumped on the Cards guy that took Brown in the mock, but I think it's a good move.  With all the offensive talent they have, building that line is a must.  With Russ Grimm there, I see him turning Brown into a top guy fairly quickly.

by gatling on Apr 28, 2007 12:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

WOW
The SBN Mock Draft had the EXACT SAME ORDER for the first 5 picks.

Will Minnesota definitely take Quinn?

I don't think so
I think Quinn will fall to Miami.  I'd say Peterson is a possibility to Minnesota, they can afford to let him sit behind Chester Taylor for a year in the injury concerns are true.

by gatling on Apr 28, 2007 12:20 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Guessing the Next Few
  1.  MIN--Peterson
  2.  ATL--Okoye
  3.  MIA--Quinn
  4. HOU--Trade or Patrick Willis

Sounds good
I just hope that it's a trade at #10 and whoever moves up doesn't take Willis.  I really want him at #11 for the Niners.

by gatling on Apr 28, 2007 12:28 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Will Peterson fall to us?
If he does, do we take him?

by TarHorn on Apr 28, 2007 12:22 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Re: Peterson
I think he could, but I think he's gone.  I'm betting on Minny taking him.

If he's there at No. 10, Smithiak has an awfully tough decision to make.

Seriously, these guys are mixed up.

When Atlanta selected Anderson, the cameras immediately went to Quinn.

And did anyone see the ticker at the bottom which showed the Panters' "key pickup" as David Carr??

Great pick here, probably the highest upside of any guy in the draft, and someone who could be a Texan for 15 years.

Where Does Medicine Woman End Up?
He has to be the top guy left on several boards at this point.  Kansas City, perhaps?  I've got my fingers crossed he's a Cokeboy within two hours.

Oh, and I am more in love than ever with the Okoye pick.  Defense, defense, defense.  Texans have to go WR in Round Three.

Brady to Cleveland
I hate Dallas.  I mean, I really, really hate Dallas.  But kudos to them--they just committed highway robbery.  This year's second and next year's first (which is likely a top five pick) from the Browns?  Unbelievable.

Joe Staley to SF
They picked 2 very solid players in the 1st Round.  I'm interested to see what Indy does to end the round.

Thanks Shake
Glad to see some cross-posting between sites.  Thanks for the backup on the backup on the Staley pick, I'm very happy with it and estatic about the Willis selection.  Interesting you mention the Colts, as they are my second favorite(and home team).  I'm guessing they'll trade down from #32 since Harrell is gone, try to pickup a 2nd rounder and either a 3rd or 4th rounder too.

I guess we can forgive you

by Shake on Apr 28, 2007 5:05 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'd be kind of shocked
Branch doesn't really fit the Tampa 2 defense, we need quick DT's to make the scheme work, not the big heavyweight types.  Corner is a concern, but we need a guy like Damieyon Hughes in the 3rd round as he fits the scheme better.  I'd like to see Paul Posluszny, but apparently Dungy is confident that Gilbert Gardener can replace Cato June.  I'm definitely not as optimistic as that.

Easily the best draft in the entire league thus far.  A stud LB and a potentially franchise LT in the first round.  Helluva job.

As I catch up on the drinking part...
Coupla comments:
Dolphins = dum.
Cards = Wow.

Texans...OK, I admit to being confused.  Huge man-crush on Okoye, no doubt.  BUT, how could we not have made a Dallas-esque trade to move down and get additional picks.  I have to go back to the Schaub trade.  The Falcons just picked up Blalock with our 2nd round pick.  Was Schaub worth all that?

Yeah yeah, I know, being critical on draft day.  Shame on me.

Anybody else surprised by Ross at 20?  I know we have a couple of Horns on the list (and did I see that we have an Aggie here, too?), so I am curious as to opinions.

Shocked that he's a first rounder, and even more surprised that Griffith joined him (to Nashville, no less), despite all the hype.  I hope Ross is an adequate CB in the NFL, because I really like everything I've seen and read about him.  That said, I have my doubts.

To the Broncos.  Personal opinion: he will be a better pro than a collegian, and he will be better than Moss.  That's my limb for the day.

If he's a legit 6'4", and if he's got decently legit speed (4.5), then this might be an excellent pick.  We need someone opposite Dre, and this guy looks like he's a workout rat and intelligent.  It might not be sucky at all.  I really like the height.  If he's at all like Colston, that would be awesome.
