Texans Minicamp On NFL Network

Flipping through the channels last night, still wondering whether Trent Dilfer has a substance abuse problem, I came upon the NFL Network's coverage of your Houston Texans' minicamp.  Apparently, they're visiting every team and producing a thirty-minute piece called "Inside Minicamp."  Good to see that the NFL Network is as hard up for things to discuss as we are at BRB.

Though I didn't catch the entire special, I did get to see a bit of the full 11-on-11 scrimmage shown by the NFL's cameras.  Some observations:

  1.  The Schaub is no David Carr.  I know, I know.  It's just an intrasquad scrimmage.  But I'm telling you--you could actually see the guy go through his progressions and make the right decision.  Although he hit the safety valve at TE or RB a lot, it was nothing like the Carr Era, where the checkdown was the No. 1 option.
  2.  The ball is very quick out of The Schaub's hands; there is no repeated patting of and/or panicking with the ball, unlike a certain Fresno State alum whose name rhymes with Kavid Darr.  Seems that Matt over at DGDB&D (MDC around these parts) noticed this as well.
  3.  Super Mario sure is fast off the corner at DE.  This does not bode well for the rest of the NFL.  And I'm even more encouraged by these words in the Chronicle today:
"When asked if he expected the sack total to rise, Williams laughed awhile before saying, 'Yeah, I expect that.'"
  1.  Two final Schaub related notes:  Seems our new franchise QB, he of the multi-million dollar contract, has a fiance who recently moved down here.  Did The Schaub, flush with signing bonus cash, spring for a mover?  Of course not!  In his words, "We hopped in a Penske [moving truck] and drove on down."  Awesome.  Just awesome.
  2.  One of the interviewers tried to give Schaub some guff about how he wouldn't be able to put in as much work now that his fiance was down here.  Schaub gave him a stern look and said something to the effect of, "No, she understands how it is.  She knows I have to work."
Query:  Is it too soon to get "The Schaub Rules" tatooed on my forehead?

Hopefully my numbers match Tim's
  1. I'm going to have to make some adjustments to prepare myself for watching this sort of offense in the fall.  Otherwise, the change could be a real shock to the system.
  2. Again...adjustments to be made.  No more getting up and going to the fridge between the snap and when the ball is actually thrown.
NOTE: I for one am enjoying the shameless cross-promotion b/n BRB & DGDB&D.
  1. "Super Mario sure is fast off the corner..."  Could this have anything to do with the fact that he's driving one of the most expensive high-performance cars made today?    Ohhh, you mean on the football field.......still, doesn't it seem silly to be the only one driving a car during practice?
  2. I agree....awesome...unless he gets his fingers smashed between 2 pieces of furniture.
  3. I am very impressed with how he is keeping his pimp-hand strong.  Apparently, all that time around Mike Vick actually paid off in some areas.  Let's just hope he doesn't release the dogs on her if she starts complaining.
Answer to Query:  No.  Just remember to have them do it backwards, so that you can read it in the mirror.
We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

Cross-promotion...
is awesome.  Unless, of course, we start posting "hey, look at the comment I made over there" on our own blogs.  The blogosphere might collapse at that point.

B-day
That's right...I'm too lazy to sign up for another user/pw set in order to comment at DGDB&D....for now.

1-Day-Late birthday wishes to Matt, who beat me out of the womb by 4 days.  Why does it always have to be a competition with you, huh?

June 17, eh? Isn't that Father's Day?
Heh.  I should've beaten you by weeks, but I was late.  So, our closeness has way more to do with my innate laziness than any competitive streak.

Yep...the my own personal double-holiday
My 1st real moment of procrastination 29 years ago...I waited an extra 2 weeks to see the sunlight.

Trent Dilfer: Not on Drugs, But Misquoted
As written:
"Talent-wise, there's no comparison between them," says Trent Dilfer, one of Carr's best friends. "David can make every throw."

What Trent really said:
"Talent-wise, there's no comparison between them," says Trent Dilfer, one of Carr's best friends. "David's forte is the short pass. David can make every throw within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. And he is at his best in the one receiver set. Capers and Kubiak always insisted on more than one option in the passing game. So they set him up to fail. Schaub, on the other hand, likes to throw the ball downfield and have multiple pass options. David and I think this risky strategy is bound to backfire."

Re: Dilfter
That's good stuff, Kozanack.  Thanks for reading, and thanks even more for contributing.

I hope Dilfer is reading this.  That sort of spin warrants a six-figure gig as his publicist.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Busted
Schaub is dead to me.  I have a first-hand account regarding his move from Atlanta, and it was via a company whose name rhymes with Schmunited Schman Schlines.  If he's this easily motivated to lie, who knows what he'll get the urge to do in the huddle.  Hopefully there's an immorality clause in his contract that can save this franchise.

Unbusted & Undead
Schaub didn't say he moved himself. He said he moved his fiance here.

Clarification
Exactly.  He's been down here since the trade; his fiance only recently joined him.  Good job attempting to stir the pot, Scott.
