Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Kyle Shanahan, Boy King...Alex Gibbs, Guru of Zone Blocking

I had every intention of commenting on the stories in this morning's Chronicle in which it was revealed that Kubes wanted legendary offensive line coach Alex Gibbs to come to H-Town to revitalize the running game, but I've been swamped at work.  Turns out, the the old cliche held true:  Always put off what you can in the morning, because it'll become irrelevant by the afternoon.

Speculate no more, Houston fans.  Alex Gibbs has accepted Kubes' offer to become assistant head coach, and Boy Wonder Kyle Shanahan has been promoted to offensive coordinator (which puts those Karl Dorrell rumors to rest).  Sound off on the hires in the Comments below.  Much more on this later, but I'll say this:  Methinks we're about to see a markedly different blocking scheme next season.

QB Coach
With Kyle moving to OC, we now need a QB coach. Have any names been mentioned yet as possibilities?

Re: QB Coach
Haven't heard word one about that, knave.  You'd have to think Kubes would hire someone, but I don't know...any chance he takes it upon himself, as a former QB, to coach the QBs?  Or lets Shanny double up?

Karl Dorell would like to become a QB coach yes?
I doubt the QB's coach is going to be a big name that we will all know and enjoy saying at the office cooler on Mondays.

Dorrell
If Dorrell is really that interested, I'd think Kubes would at least give him a look.  Two problems, however, that I can see:
  1.  From what I can see, he's never coached QBs (only WRs as a position coach).
  2.  Would that be too much of a step down for him after being head coach at a major university?

Intriguing?
I honestly can't say I know enough about both these coaches to make a decision on how I feel.

But I am a little more comfortable after reading Steph's comments at DGDB&D (scroll down to Comment #47).

We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.
