Free Agency Begins At 11:00:01 P.M. Tonight!

Not quite sure why I ended the title of this post with an exclamation point. As we've discussed at length, it's rather unlikely that your Houston Texans make any kind of splash once free agency begins. Thus, any visions of Smithiak pacing on Asante Samuel's porch, waiting for the clock to strike midnight (11 p.m. CDT) is probably misplaced. While the Texans are sure to sign some help via the open market, all signs point to them focusing on re-signing their own and the upcoming draft (less than two months away...huzzah!).

Nevertheless, the off-season is time for rampant speculation and/or dreaming. Here's a nice, partial list of some of the "bigger-name" free agents available; go nuts and speculate where any or all will or should land. If you're feeling particularly psychic, give us a ballpark estimate of what you think their new contract (length, total dollars, and guaranteed dollars) will or should be.

We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

Im with ya but...

I'm getting this feeling that the Texans aren't going to fight for him. I think we should, but they haven't commented much on him. I think if he gets a crazy offer from a team willing to overpay, then he's gone. I hope not, but that's just the sinking feeling im getting on this one.

That's what I get for commenting before Tim informed us of the supposed $5MM annual price tag.

Although, I blame Tim for not telling me that in time. He should have known what I was planning to say, and passed along this information before said comment was typed. Yep, all Tim's fault.

Rex Hadnot?

McClain is reporting the texans are pursuing
Miami Guard Rex Hadnot to play Center for us. A former UH Cougar! I don't know much about him but the article did say he has started EVERY game the last three Years. If nothing else at least the guy can stay healthy.

I read a rumor on T. Hilton's blog that said the Dolphins are close to a deal with Will Demps. I was hopeing he would be back with us.

Here's a link to the story Tyler's talking about. While I think this would be a nice signing in light of the Texans' current situation at C, it all comes down to contract terms. What's Hadnot going to want?

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

If the Price is right...

I'm all for it. The T Wade deal blew because he was severely overpaid. At this point we just need a Healthy body at The Center position, and they guy has proven he can play everyday in the NFL. Rick Smith has already stated they won't overpay, lets see what happens.

Also..you can't discount the fact that we really can't count on McKinney being healthy. If the guy gets back, then great we'll have two guys that can play G or C.
