Quinn Gray A Texan?

It appears it could happen.  The first thought that struck me, of course, is whether this means the trade talk involving Sage is heating back up.  Have the Vikings let it be known they're ready to improve their offer?  Have your Houston Texans let it be known that one third-round pick will get the deal done?  Are there other teams involved?  I have no idea, but I can't imagine the Texans are looking to bring Gray aboard if Sage is going to stay on the roster.  In other words, the interest in Gray would seem to portend that the team thinks Rosenfels might be plying his trade elsewhere soon.

Trade talk aside, would Gray would be a good back-up for The Schaub?  While it would be foolish to expect Gray to replicate what he did at Reliant on the final day of the 2007 season, his career numbers (specifically, his numbers last season filling in for a playoff-bound Jacksonville squad) make him an interesting candidate.  At the very least, I think it'd be fair to say that any perceived drop-off from Sage to Gray wouldn't be that dramatic.  And if that exchange also nets the Texans a second-rounder or multiple middle-round picks, doesn't Smithiak have to pull the trigger?

Losing leverage?
I'm all for swapping Sage for a 3rd and picking up Gray.  Gray + 3rd rounder > Sage.  But the only thing that concerns me is signing Gray exposes our intentions.  I think that weakens our position with the Vikes, if they are indeed still interested.  Hopefully, they still have that 3rd rounder on the table.

I hope Tim's intuition is right and we have something working behind the scenes.  Another 3rd rounder would be great for the team.  I'll keep my fingers crossed.

To DE or not to DE... that is the question.

Nah..
I don't see how signing another QB (a career backup) would weaken our position. Maybe we already have a verbal with the Vikes? Maybe we don't care if we get a trade or not? Most teams cary three qb's. There's nothing wrong with adding depth at a bargain price.

Another thought is why wouldn't the Vikes' pursue Gray since he is UFA? Perhaps Gray doesn't want to play anywhere up north (I don't blame him)? I mean who wants to live in Minni and shovel snow in the offseason. I know the vikes play in a dome but the weather there still sucks and division road games at GB and Chi suck too.

Re: Nah
You have a point, but I guess what sends up a flag with me is that Gray seems to be more of a backup in waiting as opposed to a career backup.

In other words, I think Gray is more of a Schaub than a Sage.  I think with regular playing time, he could be a productive starter in this league.  But, like you said, depth at a bargain price is always welcomed.  I just don't want to see the Texans with a bucketful of talent holding clipboards, while we still have needs to address in other areas, like the secondary or the d line.

But if the Vikes still want him and are willing to part with a 3rd rounder, then I say 'thanks for the memories Sage, thanks for the memories'.

To DE or not to DE... that is the question.

Question
Does anyone think there's another team banging at the door besides Minnesota (if in fact they're still interested)?  And/or that some team is offering more than a third-rounder?  I'm hoping we finagle a second-rounder out of this deal, but I think I'd settle for a third and a fourth.

Miller High LIfe
That's about as close as we're gonna get to champagne with what we got in our wallets right now, bro.

In other words, Sage isn't worth a 2nd round pick - not in my eyes.  Third, yeah - I could see.  Asking for a third and a fourth - wow, now that's some cojones my friend.  Not that I wouldn't want that, but that's a lot of prospective talent to give up for a 30 year old QB that only has 7 career starts.

But truth be told, if he was given the chance at an earlier age, he could have had a Kosar-like career.

To DE or not to DE... that is the question.

Concur
But you know the saying:  "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king."  I think there are teams that are so starved for help at QB that it may be a seller's market.  Of course, I once managed to convince myself that Phillip Buchanon would be a solid addition, so what the hell do I know?

Unresolved
I don't know what was worst, spending a 2nd/3rd rounder on P-Buc or passing on Portis twice in the 2nd round of the 2002 draft?  Talk about guzzling bleach.
To DE or not to DE... that is the question.

So...
Your saying that the QB situation in the NFL could be approaching the current Pitcher situation in MLB?
We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

Great Analogy
And yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.

Now on the Clock...
The Minnesota Vikings with their Second round pick.

Cut to the ESPN desk with Chris Berman, Tom Jackson, Mel Kiper Jr, and Chris Mortensen.

CB: "All right Minnesota is on the clock for their second pick of the day, 47th overall. Tom, the Vinkings have had made some uh..interesting draft day mistakes in the past, but it seems like they're on track so far today."
TJ: "Thats right Boom, the Vikings went Defense in the First round selecting DE Derrick Harvey from the University of Florida. What do you think they'll do here Mel?
MKJ: "If Im the Vikings I'm going to.."
CB: "Whoa wait a second, here comes the commissoner to the podium. Lets see what he has to say"
Assistant NFL Commish: "The Vikings have traded their Second and Forth round picks to the Houston Texans in exchange for Sage Rosenfels and the Texans Fith Round pick in 2009. The Texans are now on the clock"
MKJ: "What the Fuck? Are you fucking Kidding me? That's the worst Fucking trade, what the hell? The Wilf family are goddamn retards! This is unbelievable! This is a travi-sham-ockery!"
CB: "Ok, Thanks for that analysis Mel. Let's go to Ed Werder over at Valley Ranch. Ed what's on Jerry Jones Mind?"

Yes.

And thanks for playing today's episode of "Easy Answers to Easy Questions."

Nice one above, tyler.

Diehard, indeed
Chris is reporting that Rotoworld is reporting that the Chron is reporting that it may very well be a done deal, at less than $700k for 1 year.

Interesting posts
Message board posts following the article in the chronic indicating Gray intends to sign with the Texans include a couple from apparent Jags fans. They claim Gray is a cancer in the lockerroom. His signing bonus is only $40K, though, so if he's a source of disruption, he'll be easily jettisoned.
