Extreme SBN Makeover

For those who haven't been paying attention in class, it turns out that we are in the offseason. We're still a month out from the draft, and about a month past the opening of FA season. So what exactly is Captain Obvious leading into here?

It's time for a preview of what's to come at BRB this summer. It seems that the SBN sites are in the infant (or maybe toddler) stage of rolling out a new universal platform on all their sites. The word on the street is that the NFL-related sites will go under the knife for this cosmetic surgery during the summer, so they will all be on version 2.0 when the '08 season kicks off.

Just this Monday, the SBN site for our local MLB team was assimilated. So if you want a preview of things to come, head over and take a gander at The Crawfish Boxes.

FYI....all SBN sites will finally have a single user login that is shared. I haven't had time to play with any of the other new features just yet, but the feedback seems positive in the posts/comments.

SBN 2.0

I probably should have teased this, but I haven't yet. Yes...BRB, along with every SBN blog, will be getting upgraded in terrific fashion soon. The plan as I understand it is upgrade according to season, which probably puts the NFL blogs last in the pecking order, given the calendar.

Rest assured, though...the upgrade will be awesome. As Shake mentioned, the sites will share user names, meaning that you won't have to sign up for a new ID every time you register at a new SBN site. The upgrade will be even more user-friendly, and uploading pictures, clips, etc. will be available for everyone to do. There's a ton of other stuff as well, but that ought to whet the appetite.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

I happed to catch the Viva El Birdos site a while back. I already secured my name (its mine) on the sites I hit. Looking forward to the update here.

Just thinking, but a live chat feature for gameday would rock...

I think the auto-updating feature pretty much makes a thread act like a live chat.

We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

Head 'em off at the pass

Go to one of the upgraded MLB sites, and follow the link to register your "global" username w/ SBN.

But if it gives you peace of mind, it appears that they are reserving the names already in use. I'm not sure what happens if there are duplicates out there. 1st come, 1st served?

I believe it is first come, first serve; if your name is already taken, you'll need to create a new one. I know that all of the writers for SB Nation had first dibs; for example, no one has a shot at "Tim." Which I'm sure breaks all of your hearts.

But yeah--I'd go ahead and create an account ASAP on one of the updated blogs (use our Astros site if you want) to ensure that you have the best shot possible at keeping your name.

Live Game Thread

Checked it out at the Crawfish Boxes. The new format rocks. The updates are posted immediately. The code gurus at SBN did a great job. Yall should check it out.
