Mock Draft Board

A list of the possible draft picks, so that when it's our turn to pick on Mocking The Draft, Tim has an easy job, and we all get input.

This is on a Google Spreadsheet. As of right now, Me and Shake have put up our lists on the Spreadsheet. It requires an invite to be able to edit it, so if you want to add your two cents to this list, shoot me an email at tailgateandy@gmail.com

The spreadsheet can be viewed at http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pGMwxdqg00qHc0LoWiW8cSQ&hl=en

Great Idea, Andy
For what it's worth, I'd rank the remaining guys as follows for the Texans right now:
  1.  McKelvin
  2.  Clady
  3.  Dorsey
  4.  Rodgers-Cromartie
  5.  Jenkins
  6.  Williams
  7.  Harvey
  8.  Ellis
  9.  Merling
  10.  Otah
  11.  Albert
  12.  Balmer
  13.  Mendenhall
  14.  Talib
  15.  Groves
  16.  Stewart
  17.  Rivers
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Very good--generally
I have two exceptions that I feel very, very strongly about. Otah is not an NFL LT. We don't need a RT. We need Albert to play LT.

The other issue is that I have to believe Talib is not even on the Texans' draft board due to character issues.

FYI
Looks like the Chiefs are going to take Ellis.
We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

Thats an interesting pick
I thought they had the middle sewn up with Tank and Turk.  If they insist on going DT, then why take Ellis over Dorsey?

Not that it affects the Texans much, but take a look at this article comparing the two stud DTs.

To DE or not to DE... that is the question.

Pick
I think they take BPA (OT, CB, DE), in that order of preference.
OL Chris Williams/ Albert
CB McKelvin/Jenkins
DE Harvey

They bypass Mendenhall and Stewart. Another draft controversy erupts.

Back to the point of this diary
So you'd have those 4 players at the top of your draft board? And you'd have a coin toss to decide between the two LT's and CB's? If Ryan Clady dropped to 18, you'd just ignore him? Or what if Glenn Dorsey plummets to 18?

Look, obviously you can post just about whatever you want, just about where ever you want. The point of this diary, however, was not to debate who should be the pick at 18, but rather to rank the prospects, so that when the 18th pick rolls around in the Mocking the Draft mock draft, we can take the BPA at those positions.

Part of the idea, was that if we could decide, or get positive feedback on a ranked list of the prospects, we could come to some sort of meeting of the minds, and Tim could pick the BPA when our turn rolls around.

I thought it would be easiest to compile the lists on Google Spreadsheets. I haven't used it before this little project, so I didn't realize that I couldn't let everyone contribute automatically. If you want to add to the lists we have, shoot me an email, and I'll invite you so that you can edit the lists, make your own, whatever. If you want, make your own list.

I Gave You What You Asked For
You didn't ask for some long-winded ranking of players. You asked for input.  If you want something specific, be specific.

I gave you five players the Texans are likely to target, at the positions  they are targeting, in order of preference. Some will be gone. Some will be there.

Updated Input
Hmmmm.  If the real NFL draft shakes out the way this mock draft has gone, it isn't to the Texans' advantage. My updated input is as follows:
  1. Branden Albert OG/OT? - Highly rated. Has been linked to the Texans and Broncos. Plays OG, but is thought to be a potential OT. Can start in 2008. May or may not be the LT we are looking for, but very low bust potential.
  2. Kenny Phillips S - The Texans need help in the secondary. Phillips looks like the best choice. Can start in 2008. Low bust potential. Improves a position of weakness.
  3. J. Stewart RB - Didn't want to go RB, but when you look at the players left on the board, it's hard to pass him up.  Would have significant playing time. But theoretically, this is not a position of great need.
  4. Aqib Talib CB - Great athlete. Versatile. But he has some holes in his game. Can be beaten deep.

Dorsey Gone
To the J-E-T-S.  Interestingly, Matt Miller (actual NFL scout who runs Mocking The Draft) blasted the Jets for taking Dorsey on account of him not fitting at 3-4.  Don't know about you guys, but that makes me want to read up even more on the OL prospects to see who would best fit the zone blocking scheme.  Fortuitously, I know that marroncito has a post on that very topic coming up in short order.

Ryan the Raven
has a bit of ring to it, no?

Cincy is on the clock...and it appears they are taking Rivers.

We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

through ten picks
No OLs have been selected.  #11 Buffalo on the clock.

Damn it
I was hoping New Orleans would take a RB, since they desparately need one that can run b/n the Tackles.....but they took Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

And it looks like Buffalo is going WR...

We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

Hypothetically hijacked!
Arrghh - I hate losing the make-believe option on Harvey...

I pretending disappointment.

To DE or not to DE... that is the question.

Carolina @ #13
takes Boise State OT Ryan Clady...

Chicago on the clock, and appears to be going for an 'illegal' trade.  I told you it doesn't matter what the supposed rules say.

Interesting
That'll be good for some hateful e-mails amongst the football writers.

I'm laughing my ass off
They're all fired up over a trade they can't make.  Something tells me that they won't be getting their pick in on time ala Minnesota a few years back.
To DE or not to DE... that is the question.
