Steve Slaton Is The Newest Texan!

And there's your RB, folks.  Slaton had a heckuva career at West Virginia, though he slipped noticeably this past season.  Although I've seen Slaton-to-the-Texans in a handful of mock drafts, I don't believe I saw that until the fourth round in most of them.  In that respect, would Tashard Choice have been a better choice here?  Or is Slaton exactly the kind of one-cut runner who'll thrive in the ZBS?

Agree w/ Curtis
Slaton was regarded as a top-half 1st Rounder during almost his entire junior year campaign.  And we just got him near the end of the 3rd.

And yes, he is the definition of a 1-cut RB.  This should make the preseason interesting.

Anyone think Green gets cut now?

We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

We wait
If Green gets shown up by the other three RBs then, yeah.
To DE or not to DE... that is the question.

Agreed
Competition in camp will be fierce.  Unless it isn't--how much would be saved if Green was a June 1st cap casualty?
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Scary Comment
As taken from his Combine Q&A page:
Growing up, who was your favorite NFL player and why?
Emmitt Smith because he played for my favorite team.

Let's just hope he was talking about Arizona...

Stoked about this pick
He is absolutely perfect for a ZBS I'm convinced.  He can make the one-cut, hit the hole and get some yards.  I don't think he's going to be burning too many people - that was White's job at WVU.  But he definitely fits what we're doing.  He's been on the edges of my radar leading up to this, and since we couldn't get Charles - I'm 100% ok with this guy.

Same cloth
I was big on Ray Rice.  I thought he'd be an excellent fit for our system.  Him and Slaton are cut from that same cloth.  Ray Rice seems to be the tougher runner of the two, but I think that's because Slaton has a little more shimmy is shake.

Both are the same size and speed.  Rice got a lot of love because he was relied on heavily in their resurgent 2006 run.  Both were key reasons why their respective programs took huge leaps in the BCS standings over the past two years.

To DE or not to DE... that is the question.

Savvy
The more I think about it - the happier I become with the Brown pick.  If, as Pancakes and the lot are reporting, the FO was THAT set on a LT (likely being Brown), they got the guy they wanted and turned an extra pick into Steve Slaton.

That's good work right there.  Got the targeted player and added another (I think) key piece in the process.  Oh Smithiak.
