Alex Brink Is The Newest Texan!

Rounding out their 2008 NFL draft, The Texans select their version of Mr. Irrelevant, Alex Brink out of Washington State.

A quarterback at this point in the draft seems curious.  He's noted as being intelligent and gutty, so it stands to reason that he's in the running to lead the practice squad.  I don't think Matt Schaub is going to lose any sleep over this pick.  Neither is Sage or Quinn for that matter.

I would have taken a flier on a WR here, because frankly, that seems to be the only position that ever amounts to anything out to the 7th round (see Colston, Houshmandzadeh, & Driver).

So that rounds out our 2008 NFL draft.  Expect complete analysis of all seven picks in the coming days.  Let the games begin!

Why hell there.
Good day to you, Zabransky the second. That seems like a wasted pick, but I guess the 7th round is a crapshoot anyways. Although we did at least get some help from David Anderson and Zac Diles the last couple years.

Re: Anderson / Diles
I couldn't agree more.  I don't know why they would go QB here, unless they want to fill out the roster for training camp.

Kubes is a QB coach.  Maybe he saw something in the game film that he liked or thought might help going forward.

Meh... I still would have liked to see a wide out here.  Just someone to provide depth or possibly be a gunner on special teams.

To DE or not to DE... that is the question.

Surprise
I hope Sage is still up for trade, for a need position, and we have Quinn and the new guy as backups...all in all, I think we did real well in the draft!

Kubes Said Before Draft
Looking for a late round or FA QB to groom, so no surprise. Maybe if the QB/waterboy and Grey master the offense, Sage can be dealt.

Tommy Blake
I don't see his name anywhere on the pick list.  I'd think we have decent odds of getting him as a FA this week.
We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

Nice!
Great info, everyone.  Keep it comin'!

Is it September yet?

No.  No, it's not.  Sigh.

An arm
Shaub, Rosenfeld, Gray. Three arms are not enough to work a full slate of WRs in OTAs, mini-camps, and training camp. At worst, Brink is an arm to help work the WRs. Anything beyond that is a pleasant surprise. Smithiak may be hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but I can't imagine they're expecting anything more.

Not that this is the place for it,
but the people who comment on articles in the chronic are freaking idiots. Uninformed, unthinking, lazy close-minded fools.

Are you referring to...
"i just tuurned into a cowboys fan.....thanks texans for the worst 6 yrs ever"

Or perhaps:

"Can u believe we took this crap of a lineman! Especially makes me upset that we traded no. 18 where guess who RASHARD MENDENHALL WOULD HAVE FALLEN RIGHT INTO OUR LAPS! RIDICILOUS BLUNDER AS ALWAYS! WAY TO GO TEXANS"

There are some real gems on there. You really can't go wrong with any of them.

Strange
I thought you were talking about Justice.
We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

Irony
Those are the same 'foxtrots' who were jumping on the bandwagon when we started racking up wins towards the end of the season.  Screw them.

I think Matt put it best when he wrote:

Of course, people who comment on those sorts of dumbed-down blogs in general piss me off.  He (and Justice and similar blogs) get the morons who are afraid to post on our blogs for fear of ridicule.

To DE or not to DE... that is the question.

for shits and giggles
read the NFL draft page for each guy that had one.  both receivers are small, quick slot receiver types.  Jackson was a returner for Miami as well.  both LB's are "better football player than althete" types.  TE is more of a blocking type.  no info on the two D-linemen.

that's Jenkins
not Jackson.  sorry.
