And maybe he should be. Because "icon" begins with the letter "i" — just like "interception." And just like "I quit." And please oh please let him stay gone this time. The sport will somehow survive. Although, typically, a headline on ESPN.com Wednesday informed us "the NFL won’t be the same without him."

No, it won’t. There’ll be fewer interceptions and much less gushing. And the thought of it makes me want to cry happy tears.
