This guy has a Robert Conrad sized battery chip on his shoulder after not being drafted. Jones called in to a local sports show to discuss his signing and his disappointment at not being drafted. He has been training with Case Keenum and had great things to say about him.
Will the Jags also bring in Chad Stanley to compete for the gig in training camp?
Whew. It had been a few days since we mentioned Scrabble around here. I was starting to get worried people might forget about him.

According to Pancakes, a new deal is done. No details yet, will update when the numbers are available. UPDATE: Per Schefter, the deal is 4 years $22 Million. UPDATE 2: Per Adam Caplan of FOX Sports, $14 Million of it will be paid the first two seasons. Anyone like this deal? I don't. UPDATE 3: Pancakes is now reporting the deal has $6 Million guaranteed.
Chris Ogbonnaya leads the list. As he should, being a Horn and all.
According to the National Football Post, the Texans are looking to add some LB help in place of the injured DeMeco Ryans. So, nine players worked out for the team today. The only hitch is that none of them were LBs. Nope, five running backs (Javarris Williams, Alphonso Smith, Clifton Smith, Chris Jennings and Louis Rankin), Two quarterbacks (Tom Brandstater and Jonathan Crompton) and lastly....wait for it...two tight ends (Rob Myers and Derek Schouman)! It would appear the team has lost all faith in Steve Slaton, so that explains the running backs. Kubiak keeps talking about how Matt Leinart is "pushing" Dan Orlovsky for the backup job, so the quarterbacks make some sense if Dan is about to get released. But more tight ends? Seriously?
After weeks of speculation that he would sign with the Texans, DE Aaron Schobel worked out for the team but won't be signing.

Per Pancakes: After weeks of speculation that he would sign with the Texans, DE Aaron Schobel worked out for the team but won't be signing. This is very confusing. As bfd speculated, he must be out of shape or they were far apart in the money. I have no idea. It is a pretty vague tweet by Pancakes and he hasn't added anything yet. More on this as it develops... UPDATE: Okay, Pancakes has explained on the Comicle that the team and Schobel couldn't come to an agreement on the money. Therefore, he will remain retired. UPDATE #2: Mark Berman is now reporting (with quotes from Schobel) that the workout didn't go so well. "It wasn't meant to be. We couldn't agree on terms. They saw me for what I am today and not for what I can be. It's over. For me to say they made a mistake or I made a mistake, who knows? They have a lot of good players and are on the right track. It would have been hard for my ego to be a role player." - Aaron Schobel
Texans signed veteran DEs Ryan Denney and Adewale Ogunleye to replace the injured Connor Barwin and the waived Tim Jamison.<P>
— John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) September 14, 2010
Fresh from The Twitter, John McClain reports that the Texans have placed Connor Barwin on Injured Reserve, waived Tim Jamison, and signed Ogunleye and Denney to join the defensive end rotation. Thoughts?
Like most of us predicted, Houston has been reported to be showing interest in nine-time Pro Bowl Guard Alan Faneca. He was released by the New York Jets and became a free agent on Saturday. "I think everybody in football's going to be interested in him," coach Gary Kubiak said today. "We're going to check him out to see what he's interested in doing at this stage of his career, what direction he's headed." Being a Houston native in the latter part of his career, Houston is expected to have an inside shot at Faneca. I say anything that keeps Kasey Studdard glued to the bench and kept as depth only. Thoughts? Thanks to EveryHoustonTeamRox! for the original find.
