I almost jumped out of my skin when I read the following quote from Trent Dilfer:
"'Talent-wise, there's no comparison between [Matt Schaub and David Carr],' says Trent Dilfer, one of Carr's best friends. 'David can make every throw.'"
That gem was buried in a blog entry by ESPN's Seth Wickersham that was brought to my attention by the Texans Fan Blog over at the Chronicle's website (tip of the cap to Thomas Hilton for that). Wickersham's declaration that the Texans qualify as a "June sleeper" aside, are you freaking kidding me? Has Trent Dilfer watched David Carr play AT ALL in the last five years? Surely, Dilfer must be thinking of Carr's senior year at Fresno State. Or perhaps Dilfer once saw David tossing the pigskin with Papa Rodger in the front yard back in the day. But there's no way that Trent Dilfer can say with a straight face, absent being under the influence of massive amounts of barbituates, that David Carr, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2002 NFL Draft, "can make every throw" in the NFL. There's five (5) years of data, not to mention at least eleven Texans fans that DID watch every throw Carr made in the NFL, that say otherwise.
I won't even get into Dilfer's assertion that The Schaub isn't comparably talented to David Carr. In fact, if we were looking at purely physical attributes, Dilfer may have a point. But give me the quarterback who asks the defensive backs, "Anyone ready to go outside so I can make you look bad?" over The Greek God That Is David Carr every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
