After the adversity his squad faced in 2011, this accolade is insanely well deserved. For all the kudos Jim Harbaugh deserves for the turnaround he presided over in San Francisco, I (with complete and total admission of insurmountable bias) believe that what Kubes did in Houston was even more impressive, especially considering all the heat he (deservedly) took during the Richard Smith and Frank Bush years.
Gary Kubiak's response to learning that he's being honored as the AFC Coach of the Year at the 42nd NFL 101 Awards Banquet after the jump.
“I’m honored to receive this award,” Kubiak said. “It wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work that our players and coaches put in last season. We were able to overcome some obstacles caused by injuries, and it’s a credit to them. I’d like to share it (award) with them.”
