Meet The Newest Texan: Houston Selects Keshawn Martin

With the 121st selection in the 2012 NFL Draft, your Houston Texans selected Keshawn Martin, wide receiver from Michigan State University.

My thoughts on the pick after the jump.

At 5'11' and 194 pounds with a mid-4.4 40-yard dash time, Martin is a speedy, slot receiver who brings something different to the receiving corps. As a senior, Martin caught 66 passes for 777 yards and four touchdowns. Watching the Big Ten this year, my memories of Martin are of someone who is explosive but not used as often as he should be, as Sparty loves to run.

Martin's also got return ability, so Jacoby Jones is most assuredly gone. With his speed, Martin could thrive in the West Coast Offense with his yards after the catch ability on those short passes from Matt Schaub. The key for Martin, to see the field on offense, is going to be how he develops as a blocker especially compared to fellow rookie DeVier Posey.

As expected, Rick Smith double-dipped for wide receivers, grabbed another Big Ten player, and found someone to return kicks and inject some speed into the receiving corps.
