Speaking in connection with an event put on by the Houston Texans Foundation, Mr. McNair confirmed that he's ready to begin negotiations on contract extensions for Rick Smith and Gary Kubiak. With both Smith and Kubiak's deals currently set to expire at the end of the 2012 season and the success the team enjoyed in 2011, this revelation is hardly surprising.
It is, however, mildly interesting that McNair specified that he wants to get Kubes' deal done before Smith's.
Speaking at the Houston Texans Foundation’s Champions for Youth golf tournament at River Oaks Country Club, McNair said he would begin with Kubiak, and once the deal is done, turn his attention to Smith.
“I think they’ve done a great job,” McNair said. “I’m very pleased with them. If that wasn’t the case, we wouldn’t be extending them.”
The question is, my friends...what kind of extensions are we talking about? How many years, and for how much money?
