Houston Texans Roster Moves: Seven To The Practice Squad, Shelley Smith Waived

Good things can happen to Grimey, so take that Homer!
Good things can happen to Grimey, so take that Homer!

After yesterday's furious move to get down to 53, all eyes turned to noon today for teams, like your Houston Texans, to set their practice squads. Thanks to FOX 26's Mark Berman and the Houston Chronicle's John McClain, we now know who is still a practice Texan.

Also after the jump, if you chose to ignore the title, the Texans have opened up a 53rd spot on their active roster.

Practice Squad Members:
1. QB Case Keenum
2. RB Johnathan Grimes
3. WR Jeff Maehl
4. TE Phillip Supernaw
5. DT David Hunter
6. OLB Delano Johnson
7. S Eddie Pleasant
8. ???

I would guess they will go offensive line shopping, as the Texans usually carry an offensive lineman on the practice squad. I would be mildly surprised if they did not add a young, developmental tackle as the final member of the practice squad.

The Texans also waived offensive guard Shelley Smith. Smith, at times, looked strong in the preseason, but all indications are that Houston has its eyes set on adding an offensive tackle to the 53-man roster. Rashad Butler's injury makes it necessary to find a swing tackle to back up Duane Brown and Derek Newton.

We'll update this page as soon as the Texans add a 53rd player or eighth practice squad member.

EDIT: Per Mike Clis of the Denver Post, Ryan Harris has signed with the Texans. Harris, a fifth-year veteran out of Notre Dame, apparently prefers the zone-blocking scheme. Harris, who will now be your swing tackle reserve, has started 34 games in his career. Per this article, Harris has had three back surgeries, so let's hope he stays healthy in practice and Brown and Newton stay healthy during the games.

EDIT #2: Signing of Harris isn't official until he passes his physical on Sunday, says McClain.
