Updating the report that surfaced over the weekend, John McClain informs us that the Bears will come to Houston to interview Rick Dennison on Friday night. Dennison apparently didn't want to travel to Chicago before the Texans' game against the Patriots on Sunday, so the Bears agreed to travel to Houston to meet with him.
If this sounds vaguely familiar, perhaps it's because Houston's beloved defensive coordinator was faced with the same untimely issue about this time last year. Wade Phillips, however, ultimately removed his name from consideration for the Tampa Bay job, citing a desire to avoid being a distraction as the team prepared for its maiden playoff voyage.
Oh, and because of the extra money Bob McNair paid him to stay.
I'll always maintain that McNair could have achieved the same goal in a far more economical way by simply assisting Wade in his interview preparations.
Back on point: Dennison interviews with the Bears on Friday night, less than two days before the Texans play the Patriots in New England. Any concerns about this being a distraction?
