After Gary Kubiak revealed Matt Schaub was undergoing treatment that included injections as a result of the injury he suffered in the loss to St. Louis on Sunday, he declared that a decision on Schaub's availability for the Chiefs game would be made later in the week. Today, Schaub spoke to the media and had this to say:
"Just watching it on film, it could have been a lot worse," Schaub said. "I thought it was a lot worse based on how that happened and the popping that I heard. It must have come out and come back into place. I'm thankful it was not worse."
"I can say this, I'm going to do everything I can to be ready to go. I'm spending day and night working on things, getting treatment, doing things at the house, in the training room early, making our trainers get up in the middle of the night so we can do a little extra ...
"That's where we're at as a football team, and that's the way I'm built."
His performance thus far in 2013 has led to a lot of legitimate criticism of Matt Schaub's play, but you cannot question the guy's toughness. I fully believe he's going to do everything he possibly can to play. I also believe that, as Schaub implied but did not say, we are not talking about a minor injury. Factor in that the Texans get a bye after the game in Kansas City on Sunday, and it makes a whole lot of sense for Schaub to sit this one out. Yes, even with the team facing the very real possibility of falling to 2-5 with a fifth consecutive loss.
Thus, I ask you, good people of BRB: If Schaub doesn't start at quarterback for your Houston Texans on Sunday in Kansas City, who should the Texans start under center? T.J. Yates? Or Case Keenum?
