Both John McClain and Mark Berman have confirmed that Ed Reed has been released by the Houston Texans today.

Reed has done almost nothing since signing with the Texans back in March, accumulating only 16 tackles with no interceptions in his limited playing time. Rookie safety D.J. Swearinger and the surprisingly improved Shiloh Keo have far outplayed the future Hall of Famer this season, and keeping Reed on the roster any longer for his "playoff experience" would be ill-advised considering this team will likely not be playing in January anyway. Reed will no doubt be getting a bust in Ohio in five years, but his days in Texas are over.
