2013 NFL Free Agency: Houston Texans Re-Sign ILB Tim Dobbins

The Houston Texans made another free agency move by re-signing inside linebacker Tim Dobbins.

Let's cut the introduction and jump right to inside linebacker Tim Dobbins' agent.

The man who famously stuffed Baltimore running back Ray Rice will be making his way back to Houston for a third season after testing the rather tepid free agent waters. Canter, also the agent of cornerback Brice McCain, had previously said he had received interest from five teams in Dobbins. Apparently, nothing panned out enough to pull Dobbins away from Houston.

Last year, Dobbins played in 14 games and started six, due to injuries to Darryl Sharpton and Brian Cushing. He did not participate in the playoffs after being placed on injured reserve after Week 17. Dobbins typically is a special teams ace, being voted a captain last year, and short-yardage specialist. He did surprise some with some crafty coverage last year, as seen by his four passes defensed and an interception, but it's not his strong suit. Dobbins also led the 2012 Texans with four fumble recoveries.

The 30-year-old Dobbins will once again provide depth behind Sharpton and Cushing while anchoring the special teams unit. The signing does not mitigate inside linebacker as a need, however. The Texans would be well served to add speed and athleticism to the corps, especially since Sharpton has not yet proven that he can stay on the field consistently.

Thoughts on having the special teams captain back, BRB?
