2013 BRB Mock Draft: With The Twelfth Overall Pick, The Miami Dolphins Select...

One of the 2013 offseason's biggest spenders now gets to inform the world of its first round pick in the 2013 BRB Mock Draft. Who will the Dolphins choose?

BigHD strides to the stage, teal envelope in hand, and reads as follows:

The Dolphins filled (and probably overpaid for) many of their needs so far this offseason but still have some MAJOR holes to fill. They have the following holes in their starting lineup right now: LT, RB, CB, DE and S. Both starting defensive tackles will be free agents after this year as well...which made Star Lotulelei very tempting.

With so many holes to fill, I simply looked at our board and took the player that fit one of our pressing needs and was also a good value for the 12th pick. With the RB, CB and S that are available, we could probably get a comparable player in the 2nd-3rd rounds. That left us with LT, DE and DT...or more simply, Lane Johnson (until he went to San Diego the pick before us), Barkevious Mingo and Star Lotulelei.

My decision came down to which player could have the biggest impact on the defense through turnovers or sacks. Though Star is probably a 10-15 year player. I don’t see him becoming a Haloti Ngata type impact player; I think he's closer to a Paul Soliai. Cameron Wake is one of the best pass rushers in the league, but teams can scheme around him if no one can help put pressure on the quarterback. Mingo has rare athleticism and length. At worst, he should provide a Bruce Irvin type of season in 2013.

The focus this offseason by the Dolphins' front office has been to add "impact" players to this team on both offense and defense. That is why I will continue the trend. With the 12th pick of the 2013 BRB Draft, the Dolphins select Barkevious Mingo (DE/OLB--LSU).

Your thoughts on a Dolphin named Barkevious? Sweech and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now on the clock. Given the late publishing of this post, that pick will be due to me by 11 p.m. CDT.
