Unfortunately, the Houston Texans and Ryan Mallett are apparently facing the worst-case scenario as it pertains to Mallett's pectoral injury. John McClain tweets:
Just left Texans dressing room and I'm told Mallett is out for rest of season.

Mark Berman follows up:
The Texans have yet to say anything but it's my understanding Ryan Mallett is expected to undergo surgery and his season is over.

This is obviously awful news for both the Texans and Mallett, especially for the latter, having finally gotten his chance to start and in a contract year. We'll have plenty of time to discuss how this impacts both the team and the player going forward. In the meantime, here's wishing Ryan Mallett a full recovery.
Bill O'Brien will now have to guide his squad through the remaining five games of the 2014 regular season with either Ryan Fitzpatrick or Tom Savage under center.
