Unfortunately, not all of our favorite team's players need to back away from the turkey just yet, because they won't be suiting up today for the second round of our annual Texans-BESFs rivalry. Who is free to continue scarfing down pumpkin pie, dressing, and ham?
Well, OB disclosed earlier this week that OLB Jadeveon Clowney would be a game-time decision, while Clowney said he thought his chances of playing were "slim," with an apparent recurrence of discomfort in his surgically-repaired knee. Clowney didn't practice on Wednesday, and neither did LB Akeem Dent (neck), CB Kareem Jackson (knee), CB Johnathan Joseph (knee), or WR Andre Johnson (not injury related). ILB Brian Cushing (knee) and RB Arian Foster (groin), were limited in practice Wednesday, while ILB Max Bullough (hamstring), OT Tyson Clabo (foot), ILB Mike Mohamed (hip), CB Darryl Morris (thigh), and ILB Jeff Tarpinian (knee) participated fully on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Clowney, Dent and Jackson sat out practice entirely, while Joseph was upgraded to limited participation from sitting out entirely the day before. Cushing and Foster remained limited in practice, and SS D.J. Swearinger (ankle) and DT Ryan Pickett (back) showed up on the injury report with limited participation. Bullough, Clabo, Dre, Mohamed, Morris, and Tarpinian practiced fully, as did S Kendrick Lewis (knee).
On Friday, Clowney was ruled out for the game, along with Jackson, who is now missing his third game, in line with the initial 3-4 week recovery time announced at the time of his MCL sprain. Dent was listed as questionable. All other players who had appeared on the injury report for the week were listed as probable, even though not all of them were able to participate fully in Friday's practice. Cushing, Foster, Joseph, Pickett, and Swearinger remained limited in practice, while Bullough, Clabo, Dre, Lewis, Mohamed, Morris, and Tarpinian were able to complete 100% of their regular reps.
For our "friends" in Methopotamia, S Michael Griffin (shoulder), OT Taylor Lewan (ankle), OT Michael Oher (toe), and DE Kamerion Wimbley (hamstring) did not participate in Wednesday's practice, while DB Marqueston Huff (hamstring), RB/WR Dexter McCluster (concussion), CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson (back), and RB Leon Washington (hamstring) were limited.
On Thursday, Griffin, Lewan, Oher, and Wimbley continued to sit out of practice, while Huff, McCluster, Wreh-Wilson, and Washington remained limited.
For the week's final practice on Friday, Lewan, Oher, and Wimbley sat out, with Griffin, Huff, McCluster, Wren-Wilson, and Washington participating in a limited fashion. The Titans listed Wimbley as out, with Griffin, Huff, Lewan, and Oher as questionable, and McCluster, Washington, and Wreh-Wilson as probable.
Thursday, OB noted that Arian Foster was "moving around pretty well," leading OB to "feel good about where [Arian’s] at today," so we might be able to get the linchpin of our offense back against our rivals. Additionally, since QB Ryan Mallett was placed on season-ending IR with a torn pectoral muscle, QB Tom Savage will finally be active for his first NFL game since being named the second QB ahead of newly-signed QB Thad Lewis.
All told, it's been a busy week of practice and eating for the Texans and those other guys. With all that said, the following folks will not be suiting up today.
