NFL Salary Cap Expected To Increase To Nearly $142 Million In 2015

Mo' money, less problems. Rick Smith and Bill O'Brien might have just a little extra pocket change going into the annual free agency frenzy next spring.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora gave some insight last night into what we can expect from next season’s big salary cap increase.

The implications of such a jump are fairly large. The Texans are reportedly on the hook for just over $128 million in spending going into next season per OverTheCap, and that does not even include cutting potential cap casualties like Johnathan Joseph and Ryan Fitzpatrick. If those numbers hold, Rick Smith could be looking at anywhere from $10-$25 million dollars of available room to keep Kareem Jackson and Ryan Mallett in the fold, as well as bringing in a few moderately price free agents (Cole Beasley, perhaps?).

Keep an eye on these numbers over the next few months. This could be a very busy March for Rick Smith and company.
