It has long been thought that the Ninja Assassin was a bad fit for Romeo Crennel's traditional two-gapping 3-4 scheme, and Rick Smith's reluctance to re-sign one of the captains of his team seems to confirm that notion. Smith, now 32, is still a productive player; as both a pass rusher and locker room leader, he brings excellent value to a team like the Redskins who just lost their heart and soul in London Fletcher to retirement. Washington has also released their own veteran defensive end, Adam Carriker, last week and now have a sizable hole at the position. Dan Snyder would do well to not let a great player like Smith leave his building without a contract.
