Andre Johnson Expects "Breakout Year" From DeVier Posey

Interviewed at an event for his charity, Andre Johnson, the Texans' All-Galaxy wide receiver, had some hopeful words for DeVier Posey.

Seems like a lifetime ago, but Posey's catch against the Patriots was a thing of beauty.

He said it like this:

Thanks to James Palmer's article on CSN for the quotage.

It would have been shocking to hear anything other than innocuous optimism from Andre Johnson, who'd be hard-pressed to insult a mosquito, but his hope isn't without warrant. There were a few flashes that we saw from DeVier Posey, in 2012 and 2013, but certainly not enough to warrant significant playing time over DeAndre Hopkins. So where will he fit if not the slot?

Bill O'Brien said yesterday that the team is lacking a slot wide receiver...a position that he says is important to his offense. Posey will have to compete with Keshawn MartinAlan Bonner, and probably an incoming late-round rookie via the NFL Draft to secure the job. I think it's likely that O'Brien will get a WR of his choosing to compete with the current group; those guys have done little to inspire confidence. O'Brien's philosophies and priorities will hopefully mine some value from these guys that Gary Kubiak's system never would have.

Whatever happens, I'm rooting for Posey to fulfill Andre's wishes and enjoy a breakout year in 2014. Something around 50 catches, 700 yards and three scores as the team's dependable third WR, iif only to give the writer formerly known as MDC a moral quagmire of having to cheer for a former Ohio State Buckeye.
