2014 NFL Draft: MTD Says Houston Texans Stay With Familiar Name At No. 1, But A New Player Emerges At No. 33

SB Nation's Mocking The Draft has its latest estimate out. This week, they have the Houston Texans staying the course with the first pick of the 2014 NFL Draft and going in a new direction at No. 33.

At No. 33? No, thank you.
At No. 33? No, thank you.

It's MOCK DRAFT MONDAY, so you knew our friends at Mocking The Draft wouldn't let the day pass without a new projection of the first two rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft. Their entire estimation can be read here. In the meantime, here's what they have your Houston Texans doing with the first picks of the first and second round.

1. Houston Texans - Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina

The Texans have a big need at quarterback, but the closer we get to the draft, the more it feels like Clowney is their choice. Well, this week at least. There are 17 days to change this choice to Khalil Mack, Greg Robinson, a quarterback and then ultimately back to Clowney.

33. Houston Texans - Zach Mettenberger, QB, LSU

If Houston really does pass on a quarterback with the first pick, Mettenberger makes more sense than Tom Savage with No. 33. This doesn't require much overanalysis; Mettenberger is just the better player. He's a classic pocket passer who finds success driving the ball deep.

While I am growing increasingly resigned to the idea of the Texans taking Clowney first overall (that's the subject of a completely different post), I can safely say I would not react favorably to Houston drafting Mettenberger at No. 33. I'd feel the same way about Savage. I simply don't think there will be a QB worth that pick available when the Texans go back on the clock in the second round.

Would you embrace a Clowney-Mettenberger combo in the first two rounds on May 8th and 9th?
