The Cleveland Browns return to the BRB podium, thanks to the Indianapolis Colts deciding that they'd rather have Trent Richardson than a first round draft pick. FreedomRide, the floor is yours again.
With the 26th pick in the 2014 BRB Mock Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Ryan Shazier (LB--Ohio State).
This is a neat intersection of need and quality for the Browns, as the versatile, hard-hitting Shazier fills a major hole in their defense left when team leader D'Qwell Jackson was cut in February. In addition to being a versatile player who can rush the passer, drop into pass coverage and stuff the run, Shazier is praised in draft analyses for his strong character and leadership ability.
Shazier led the Big 10 in tackles-for-loss in 2013. He also had six sacks, four pass breakups and four forced fumbles, so the Browns should expect him to contribute pretty quickly in their defense. He is a skilled pass defender and should be a "3-down" LB for Cleveland.
Shazier is a bit on the lean side, but helping him add some muscle bulk should not be a problem for an NFL strength training staff. Other than that, there is very little not to like about Shazier, and he should quickly grow into a player that will help the Browns get over the end of the D’Qwell Era with barely a speed bump.
First the Browns get the Teddy Bridgewater. Then they get the Ryan Shazier. THEN they get the wins. That's how the old chestnut goes, right? Share your thoughts on Shazier staying in Ohio in the Comments below.
The New Orleans Saints and H&Hguy have already made their pick, so check back tomorrow at 10 a.m. CDT to see who's been mocked to The Big Easy.
