After spending the first two days of the draft reinforcing the offensive and defensive lines, the Houston Texans finally have their quarterback – Tom Savage of Pittsburgh.
I’ll admit that I did not anticipate Bill O’Brien waiting all the way until the 135th pick to address the biggest need on the team, but I can’t be upset at him taking a big-armed developmental quarterback here. Savage took a long, long road to the NFL through three schools - Rutgers, Arizona, and Pittsburgh. Savage's senior season was his first game action since all the way back in 2010, and it was marked with inconsistency. Savage completed 61% of his passes for 2,958 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. Despite some issues with ball placement and decision making, Savage's physical potential sure is enticing. If given time to develop mechanically and mentally, he could turn into a very capable starter. At the very least, Andre Johnson will never be underthrown again.
I dare say that this new Texans' regime is killing this draft. Be still my heart.
