The Texans didn't move back into the first round last night, and they were satisfied with closing the round after selecting Jadeveon Clowney first overall and then calling it a night. How will they open the ceremony this evening? Will they try to find trade partners and move down from No. 33 to load up on more players in this deep draft class? Will they kick off the second round with a QB? If they do that, why didn't they move up into the first round to enhance that potential QB's contract with a 5th year option for the team? I think the fact that the Texans didn't move up last night is very telling that they likely won't go QB at 2.1 (33rd overall), unless it was just that difficult to find a trade partner.
They need to reinforce the line on both sides of the trenches, and there is plenty of talent sitting there with tonight's first pick. WR Marqise Lee could be a tremendous weapon as a slot receiver, and potentially a huge upgrade over Keshawn Martin. Tight end may still be a priority for the Texans (Patriots South); Jace Amaro and Austin Seferian-Jenkins are sitting there. I don't think ASJ fits the Texans' character profile though, so Amaro is a more likely candidate.
No running backs have been taken from this draft class yet, so the Texans have the pick of the litter there. The top cornerbacks are gone, so I doubt they have anyone graded for 2.1 in that position based on who is left.
I think they will try to move down and get more picks, or they will take an offensive lineman or defensive lineman at 2.1 tonight. My preference would be to get Xavier Su'a-Filo, even though it isn't a "sexy" pick. I wouldn't be surprised to see Houston move back up into the late 2nd round for one of the remaining quarterbacks.
The poll below includes a mix of players ranked in the top 25 after the first round; it's loosely grouped by position and somewhat weighted by ranking. I tried to give you as much to mull over as possible for your vote.
