After Jadeveon Clowney suddenly went under the knife a couple of weeks ago, speculation about when he actually suffered the sports hernia that necessitated the operation occurred. Although Clowney initially told the media that the injury occurred sometime after he was drafted first overall by the Texans, John McClain now says Clowney told Gil Brandt that he suffered the injury long before the 2014 NFL Draft and subsequently played through the pain last season at South Carolina.
I just spoke with Gil Brandt at rookie symposium. Clowney told him today he played with sports hernia last season at South Carolina.

To no one's surprise, Clowney's agent seems to support this version of events:
Agent Bus Cook said Clowney thought he had a groin injury and played thru it. Thought bout sitting out pro day cause of it but was terrific.

So when did Clowney actually get hurt? Could that sports hernia explain Clowney's much criticized decrease in production in 2013? The answer is written in the stars.
In the meantime, stay tuned to see what Clowney's best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Clowney pass out at 31 Flavors after South Carolina beat Missouri last October.
