With all due respect to Abilene Christian and Georgia State, the college football season begins for real tonight. The first game, and likely to be of some interest to a segment of the local population features the Texas A&M Aggies taking on the South Carolina Gamecocks at 5 p.m. CDT.
I fully realize that matchup doesn't engender the same kind of enthusiasm that Texas-North Texas (7 p.m. CDT Saturday, only on The Longhorn Network!) does, but it's passable for a weeknight, I suppose.
There are plenty of other games on after Aggies-Gamecocks this evening, including but not limited to Boise State-Ole Miss (7 p.m. CDT), Temple-Vanderbilt (8:15 CDT), and Rutgers-Washington State (9 p.m. CDT).
It brings me great joy to type the following sentence. This is your first open thread for the 2014 college football season. You know what to do.
