Houston Texans Roster Cuts 2014: Chris Clemons, Mike Thomas Released

Well, that didn't take long. Two NFL veterans join the free agent pool before ever taking a regular season snap for the Texans. Read on for the details.

That's not Ed Reed getting burned for a touchdown, but Chris Clemons filled in that role perfectly in his short time here.

This leaves Kendrick Lewis, D.J. Swearinger, Shiloh Keo and Eddie Pleasant at safety thus far. Cutting Chris Clemons certainly is a surprise as many of us pegged Pleasant as the likely player to get axed. Did he just not have much left in the tank? Or did the "Hawaiian Hitman" Shiloh Keo impress coaches enough to hand him the starting role?

So that clears room behind Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins for the familiar faces of Keshawn Martin and DeVier Posey, plus the incoming Damaris Johnson. Not bad. All I know of Damaris is the few times I've seen him on Madden, so I'll start looking for something more substantial.

Your thoughts on these (not-so) surprise cuts, Texans fans?
