Houston Texans Place Louis Nix on Injured Reserve, Sign Ryan Pickett

After he was inactive for the first three games of the 2014 season, the Texans have decided to place 3rd round pick Louis Nix on injured reserve. The team then signed veteran Ryan Pickett to replace him.

Dave Zangaro of CSN Houston and others are reporting that the Texans have elected to place NT Louis Nix on injured reserve, while signing DT Ryan Pickett to take his spot on the depth chart.

In case you've forgotten, Nix was one of the team's third round picks in the 2014 NFL Draft; the team actually traded back up to get him. He was expected to help bolster the team's front 7 by rotating in for starter Jerrell Powe on occasion.  Instead, Nix has drawn the ire of the coaching staff for his attitude and approach to the game. Back in August, Bill O'Brien was quoted as saying that Nix "Really doesn't totally get it yet, has a long way to go". With all the talk surrounding Nix's attitude and readiness, one can't help but wonder if this has more to do with injury or discipline.

Ryan Pickett is a 35 year old, 13 year NFL veteran. He spent most of his career in Green Bay, after coming into the league with St. Louis as a 1st round pick in 2001. Over his career, Pickett has recorded 9.5 sacks and 371 tackles in 172 starts.
