Texans' Mike Maccagnan Expected To Be Hired As Jets' General Manager

A member of the Texans front office is heading to the Big Apple. What does this mean for the Houston Texans?

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Charley Casserly made it happen. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports the New York Jets have found their man to replace John Idzik:

That man is Houston Texans Director of College Scouting Mike Maccagnan. Maccagnan is a disciple of the Texans' original General Manager, Charley Casserly. Casserly is currently an advisor to Jets owner Woody Johnson during this process of rebuilding the Jets' front office and coaching staff.

Maccagnan served under Casserly while he was in Washington, and Casserly later hired him again after Casserly joined Houston. Maccagnan has spent much of his time in pro football as a scout before he was promoted to Director of College Scouting in 2011 with the Texans.

Maccagnan must have taken every opportunity to promote his 2011 draft class with the Texans, which included defensive end J.J. Watt.  The remaining draft classes since 2011 have yet to get their narratives written.

With a new GM in place, the Jets will than need to turn to a finding a new coach.  Perhaps a coach that has experience with Maccagnan. Hmmmm...I wonder who that could be.
