There are no sure things in the NFL. Any given Sunday and all that jazz. And yet, if the Houston Texans lose to the Indianapolis Colts tonight, Texans fans will not react with a we'll-get-'em-next-time or that's-the-way-the-ball-bounces truisms. If the Texans lose tonight, they will be 1-4, staring up at the rest of the AFC South and most of the AFC. The criticisms leveled at the organization, coaches, and players will be numerous, hysterical, and pointed. There will still be 11 more games on the regular season schedule, but I believe it's safe to say that a vast majority of the fan base will throw their hands up and declare the 2015 season over if the Texans lose their fourth game of the year this evening.
Tonight's big. It's big for the Colts too, but they have the luxury of already having won two games and the knowledge that Andrew Luck's presence under center could have yielded a different result. That's not to say Indianapolis fans will be happy with a loss, but it won't have the same crippling effect one would have for Houston fans.
No pressure, Texans. The outcome of tonight's game merely determines whether a deafening backlash and slide into anger or, worse, indifference, consumes those who closely follow the team. Before the middle of October. No pressure.
