Aaron Wilson has the story:
The Texans have cut quarterback Zac Dysert from the practice squad, signing center Dalton Freeman and outside linebacker Gerald Rivers to the practice squad.
A former undrafted free agent from Mississippi, Rivers ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds and had a 39 1/2 inch vertical leap, a 10-8 broad jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 20 times at a regional Pro Day. He was cut from the Giants practice squad in September. He has also played for the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos.
He went undrafted out of Clemson. Freeman, 6-5, 291 pounds, played in 16 games with one start for the Jets last season.
Dysert will forever have a place in Houston Texans lore as a bit player in the Ryan Mallett saga; specifically, there was a question as to whether Dysert could have been elevated to the active roster in time for kickoff of the Dolphins game had Bill O'Brien cut Mallett before the game like he allegedly wanted to.
Best of luck to Zac Dysert as he looks to continue his NFL career elsewhere.
