Today is March 14 and is otherwise known as Pi Day, if you didn't know, because the date matches the first few numbers of the mathematical constant. This year was special because, the 15 in 2015 helped match up to the never-ending irrational number.
- 3/14/15 ---> 3.1415
And earlier today at 9:26 AM and 53 seconds, the match up was extended.
- 3/14/15 9:26:53 ---> 3.141592653
This is pretty cool in that it'll never happen again during our lifetimes using the Gregorian Calendar that we use now.
Simply defined, Pi is just the ratio of a circle's -- any circle's -- circumference to its diameter. But the importance of it goes far beyond. Its endless and completely random nature has astounded the brightest thinkers of our species for centuries. Our understanding of the number is directly proportional to humanity's growth and evolution. Its use has helped shape our civilization and expanded our knowledge of the universe far beyond we ever could have without it.
Also, 3/14 is Steak and BJ Day.
