Bill O'Brien met with the media during the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix today, and The Mothership reported these quotes from the Texans' head coach about Jadeveon Clowney:
"Hopefully he'll be able to get out on the field sometime during training camp," head coach Bill O'Brien said in a Monday morning NFL Network interview with Tiffany Blackmon. "Maybe at the beginning of training camp if he continues to work at the pace that he's been working."
"Our team needs him, and he knows that. He's working hard to get back out there," O'Brien said.
"He's in there every day," O'Brien said. "He's putting in a lot of time in our training room with our trainers and our doctors."
Several early projections of Clowney's physical therapy duration had many of us thinking that we may not even see the 2014 NFL Draft's top overall pick take the field until sometime after the 2015 season started, if not 2016. However, this news from the head coach sure brings the chance for rare optimism around these parts. Could the use of innovative military techniques be fueling a faster recovery? I'll temper my excitement since anything can happen during intense rehab training, but to even think we could see Clowney in training camp is pretty amazing!
