Although the Houston Texans made waves by re-signing both Derek Newton and Kareem Jackson (stories here and here), things have been very quiet on the Ryan Mallett front. Tania Ganguli provides a morsel of positive news tonight:
The #Texans are indeed getting closer with Ryan Mallett. Hoyer is still in the works.

John McClain chimes in with the following:
After day of negotiations Texans make progress with Mallett and could be closing in on deal.

Texans want to sign Mallett before he hits market, then try to sign Hoyer.

It's become pretty clear the Texans want Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer based on conversations with people in the NFL.

I know many Texans fans want nothing to do with Brian Hoyer (at least as a starting quarterback), but a QB depth chart of Ryan Mallett/Brian Hoyer/Tom Savage is somewhat appealing, isn't it? Especially if the Texans manage to trade Ryan Fitzpatrick for something?
