2015 NFL Mock Draft: With The Sixteenth Pick, The Houston Texans Select...

With Rivers McCown pinch-hitting for the San Francisco 49ers and stealing Kevin White just one pick before the Texans went on the clock, the BRB masthead found themselves in a position where the best player available and the best player at a position of need were basically the same (though parts of the masthead would contend that Melvin Gordon is the BPA, but whatever).

With no further ado:

With the sixteenth pick of the 2015 BRB Mock Draft, the Houston Texans select Eric Kendricks (ILB-UCLA).

In terms of near-universal truisms, "Brian Cushing can no longer cover TEs/RBs in a way that doesn't make you oppressively sad" is right up there with Planck's Constant and "Never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city."  These aren't debatable; they just are what they are, and you have to account for them.

That being the case, a sane person could (and should) make the argument that the Texans are in dire need of a true three-down linebacker.  Which brings us to Eric Kendricks.

You want an inside linebacker who can make plays in space? Kendricks led the nation with 101 solo tackles.  Need a linebacker who can cover and actually make a play on the ball in coverage?  Kendricks had 5 INTs during his tenure at UCLA, including three in 2014 alone.  Need a linebacker who will in no way ever remind you of the halcyon days of Mike Mohamed?  Kendricks is not Mike Mohamed.

Had Kevin White slid past San Francisco, there might have been a pretty even divide among the BRB masthead regarding this pick.  With White gone, Kendricks carries the day and provides an immediate upgrade at a position where having a pulse might have been an upgrade at times over the past two years.
