"I tried that, doc, but it's still uncomfortable to sit down..."

John Elway, Gary Kubiak and our very own Bnew417 have been hard at work for 27 picks now, watching talent get snatched up. Who's left? What position do they need to upgrade the most?
With the 28th pick in the 2015 BRB Mock Draft, the Denver Broncos select Stephone Anthony (ILB--Clemson)
After racking my brain on trying to get an idea of what Bill O'Brien and Co. are going to do with the Texans in this year's draft, everything seemed to fall in place when looking at prospects with my Kubiak heckuva' battlefightin'-maroonish tinted glasses. After browsing through various mock's and reading posts and comments over at the Mile High Report, I narrowed the list of possible first round needs for the Broncos to 3 things (in no particular order):
Trench warfare: this is a 1a/1b scenario. Either get Wade his shiny new NT or pick up an OT to help protect Peyton Manning
Malcolm Brown would have been my NT selection here. He is off the board, so we'll wait to address NT with other resources.
TJ Clemmings' athletic ability is enticing, and would fit quite nice in Kubes' ZBS.
Linebacking Corps: DeMarcus Ware isn't getting any younger. Danny Trevathan and Brandon Marshall have been great, but have also been hit by the injury bug. Also, I think Wade will want his pick of 'his guys' to infuse in to his new defense.
STEPHONE ANTHONY IS A BEAST.
Future QB: Peyton Manning old. As of now, next in line for the starting gig is Oswwuu... uh, not on the roster yet.
Very tempting to go Brett Hundley, but may want to hold off, as Kubes has never had a QB like Manning and could want to get BPA in order to improve team to win now....Manning won't last forever.
With that, the Broncos decided to take Stephone Anthony out of Clemson with the 28th pick.
When I started to look at his games on Draft Breakdown I got the John Gruden Chucky squint going with my brow and immediately think, "Wow, this kid is a ball player. I wouldn't even call the Spider 2 Y Banana play on this guy." Aggressive, has a nose for the ball/making plays, switch is always turned on.
He stands out on tape and his combine results support it. Anthony has sideline-to-sideline speed and ran the 40 in 4.56 seconds. Speaking of sideline, there is a criticism of him losing ground to avoid blockers when trying to get the ball carrier on outside run plays. Great first step, though, and short area quickness with a 1.56 10 Yard Split. Plus, he posted a 7.07 and 4.03 in the 3 Cone Drill and 20 Yard Shuttle, respectively. The only thing that really stood out in his quickness/footwork is he'd do a slight hop/jump step before making his first step. I think this will be coached out of him.
Anthony is athletic enough to play in coverage, and with time will be a plus coverage LB. He registered an INT in each of the last 3 years at Clemson, while tallying 9 PDs (all 4 years). A knack for causing turnovers is another positive; along with the INTs, he also had 6 FFs in his career.
My favorite part about his game is his tenacity and downhill style of play. He plays with good leverage when he is moving forward. That's illustrated in the stat sheet with his 33.5 TFLs (24 last 2 seasons). He will be a plus blitzer up the A gaps with his burst and ability to stay low and rip through blocks.
The pick came down to T.J. Clemmings and Stephone Anthony. Clemmings would have been Kubiak's version of Duane Brown--an athletic prospect who was relatively new to the OT position, but showed lots of promise... especially in the ZBS. It came down to a few things: Anthony's ability to not only help in the run game, but also help out in covering TEs and the flats area.
Also, I made a bet with Wade. If I pick up a defensive player for him in the first, he has to trade in the shorts for some khaki's this training camp... no one needs to be exposed to them legs...
Thanks for the opportunity, hopefully it wasn't TL;DR and the pick made was reasonable and at least made sense to you. Thoughts?
Last year Denver was 2nd against the rush and 9th against the pass (in yards), while allowing the 5th lowest percentage of third downs converted. An inside linebacker like Anthony could help continue that success. Elway and Kubiak must know that Peyton Manning can't quite carry a team kicking and screaming into the playoffs anymore. Any pressure that can be lifted off his 39-year-old shoulders will only help.
What say you, Texans fans? Is Anthony a good fit for the Broncos or nah?
One Man Blitz and the Indianapolis Colts are up next. The pick is due by 12 PM CT today!
