New faces "excited" after 1st day with Texans
Vince Wilfork, Rahim Moore and Cecil Shorts III were excited following their first day of work as Houston Texans.
Shorts:
"It was good," Shorts, III said. "I was excited to be here. It was a little different coming from Jacksonville. I kind of knew the routine. It was a good first day and I'm excited about what's to come."
Wilfork:
"One thing I do notice is that it’s a tight group," Wilfork said. "They love to play football. I think coming here the first day, guys were excited to get back going. I’m looking forward to the season."
Moore:
Moore, meanwhile, was excited to be part of a secondary led by cornerbacks Johnathan Joseph and Kareem Jackson. He also said he "wasn't too anxious", even though he'd spent the first four years of his career as a Denver Bronco.
J.J. Watt's first day of offseason workouts
J.J. Watt returns to NRG Stadium for the first day of offseason workouts.
"I normally hit my highs in July, at the end of the second part of the offseason," Watt said. "So to hit this early in the offseason is exciting for me. It's really been a great offseason so far. A lot of my lifts, a lot of my running, a lot of it is really where I'd normally be at the end of July. It's exciting for me to be so far ahead this early."
Watt also explained that the box jump is an exercise that emphasizes explosion, agility and leg strength.
"There are so many different aspects to it," Watt said. "That’s why I like it as a training method. But who knows how high it’s going to go? It’s a lot of fun trying, that’s for sure."
Hopkins on QBs, leadership role
WR DeAndre Hopkins talks about his role going into this season and what he sees in the new wide receivers.
Wilfork: O'Brien a "great offensive mind"
Vince Wilfork talked about the first day of conditioning and what it's been like seeing some old faces in the coaching staff.
DeAndre Hopkins on how different it feels without Andre Johnson: "No comment." #Texans

Would take Hopkins' no comment on Andre Johnson questions as just him wanting to stay away from a messy topic. Was polite about it. #Texans

Are you excited to see what a passing attack consisting of Ryan Mallett, DeAndre Hopkins and Cecil Shorts looks like? I am, but I think it's more from not knowing what to expect. Andre Johnson was our security blanket for so long, that it's difficult to imagine the team without him. His tone-setting presence is gone. I lean towards optimism in cases like this, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it pans out.
Stay tuned for more news tomorrow as the offseason workout program continues.
